‘Belgravia‘ is a six-part period drama TV series named after the exclusive district in Central London.
I was very fortunate to take part in this project during 2019 and beginning of 2020, working for BlueBolt.
The task was to recreate London at the time Belgravia was built, around 1840s.
For the Belgravia area, we started using plates of present London shot from a helicopter.
Based on our research, we enriched and re-worked a significant part of them as a CG build, to finally produce plausible period aerial views of Belgravia and Eaton Square Gardens.
I did the layout for all the locations on the show. I was also the 3D Lead for the aerials, which involved the CG replica of 1940s Belgravia and a big chunk of surrounding London; and the CG environment for the south bank of the Thames (with lots of CG ships) that we created for the series finale.
To tackle these tasks we developed a system based in blocks, references and Arnold standins which allowed us to work efficiently and meet the deadlines.
The entire BlueBolt 3D team did an amazing job, but it is worth to mention the efforts and help of Kine Marie Øvergård Sætereng and especially Max Bortolin, whose talent, dedication and attention to detail was key in the sucess of this huge project.
